Chinese Medicine is a complete system of health care that has been in existence for over 3,000 years. It views the body as a dynamic, interrelated whole possessing a vital energy called Qi. This energy flows freely through channels in the body, however if there is a blockage in the flow of Qi, pain and/or disease results. Qi is dependant on blood and blood is dependant on Qi, so affecting the circulation of both of these "substances" facilitates healing.  Chinese medicine is also based on the  balance and harmony of all parts. Imbalances are perceptible through patient's signs and symptoms, history, and physical cues such as the appearance of the tongue and quality of the pulse. Modalities used to preserve and restore balance are acupuncture, diet modifications, various movement exercises that encourage free flow of Qi such as Tai Chi or Qi Gong, and Chinese herbal formulas.
